The Courtlux ranking is an ELO-based national leaderboard for padel and tennis in Luxembourg. Everyone starts at 1000 ELO, and after every ranked match your rating moves up or down based on the result against the opposing team's average rating. Points push you through three divisions — Silver, Gold and Elite — and your rank is recalculated after every reported match.
How the Courtlux ELO works
ELO is a rating system originally designed for chess. The core idea: beating a stronger team gives you more points, losing to a weaker one costs more. Before each match Courtlux estimates your win probability from the ELO gap with the opposing team's average, then updates your rating based on what actually happened. Read the full breakdown on how ELO works.
- Everyone starts at 1000 ELO. No head start for experience from other sports.
- K-factor is bigger early on. Your first 15 matches are a calibration period, so ELO moves faster while the system learns your real level, then the swings shrink as you play more.
- Anti-farming protection. Repeatedly beating the same weaker players, or losing to the same stronger ones, reduces how much your ELO moves over time.
- +5 upset bonus. Beat a team rated 150 ELO or more above you and you get a flat +5 ELO on top of the normal gain.
- Friendly matches don't count. Marking a match as friendly keeps your wins/losses/draws stats, but your ELO doesn't change.
The three divisions
| Division | ELO range | Profile |
|---|---|---|
| Silver | 1000 – 1299 | Everyone starts here. Learning the ropes, building consistency. |
| Gold | 1300 – 1649 | Competitive. Strong volley, smash and tactics. |
| Elite | 1650+ | Tournament-level. |
How to climb the leaderboard fast
- Play your calibration matches seriously. The first 15 matches move your ELO the most, so they settle you near your real level fast.
- Challenge stronger teams. Winning against a higher-rated opponent gives a bigger gain — and an extra +5 if the gap is 150+.
- Always report scores. Unreported matches don't count.
- Mix up your opponents. Beating the same players repeatedly triggers anti-farming, so facing varied opponents keeps gains healthy.
- Use friendly matches to warm up. They don't touch your ELO, so they're safe for mixed-level or casual games.
How Courtlux compares to FIP and Premier Padel
FIP and Premier Padel only track sanctioned tournaments — top 0.1% worldwide. Courtlux is for the other 99.9%: amateurs and intermediates who want a transparent ranking from everyday matches in Luxembourg.
Reserves and unreported matches
- Reserve players (badge "R") who don't actually play receive no ELO change.
- Unreported matches are ignored.
- Canceled matches don't affect ELO.
